Digital Trenches: How BlackMill Games Rebuilt the Gallipoli Front

Under the shadow of the Seddülbahir Fortress, where the echoes of World War I still linger, a new digital front has opened. The Directorate of Gallipoli Historical Site and developer BlackMill Games have launched a collaboration to transform the historic battlefield into a high-fidelity, immersive experience for global players.

The partnership, formalized on August 10, provides developers with exclusive access to the Directorate’s archives, including LiDAR scans, 3D spatial data, and detailed military documentation. This technical foundation allows the studio to reconstruct specific landmarks like Anzac Cove, Ariburnu, and Kumkale with precise historical accuracy. Rather than focusing solely on combat, the project aims to serve as a digital vessel for humanity’s shared historical memory, placing players directly into the geography and atmospheric conditions of the 1915 campaign.

İsmail Kaşdemir, President of the Directorate, emphasized that the medium offers a unique bridge to younger generations, allowing them to engage with the narrative of the conflict through the perspective of Turkish heroes. For BlackMill Games CEO Jos Hoebe, the project represents a milestone in blending institutional expertise with interactive entertainment. The game, which features 50-player objective-based battles and authentic period weaponry, is scheduled for a worldwide release on August 20.
