Injective Secures SEC Transfer Agent Registration for Tokenized Assets

Injective has gained U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission registration as a transfer agent through its affiliate, Injective Institutional Services. The move marks a shift for the Layer 1 blockchain, providing a regulated framework to maintain official ownership records for tokenized securities and process administrative corporate actions.

Injective Secures SEC Transfer Agent Registration for Tokenized Assets

The registration, which follows an application first disclosed in July, allows Injective to bridge the gap between blockchain-based token representations and the legal requirements of traditional securities markets. While possession of an on-chain token provides a digital record, this new status enables the network to manage the authoritative register required by regulators. By functioning as a transfer agent, the affiliate can now verify ownership changes, issue or cancel securities, and handle distributions within a compliant environment.

This infrastructure supports a model where smart contracts manage asset movement while the registered entity performs the necessary compliance and recordkeeping. Injective stated that this setup provides the regulatory readiness needed to scale real-world asset tokenization. The news triggered an immediate market reaction, with the network's native token, INJ, rising approximately 8% following the announcement.

Integrating with regulated markets

Injective is not alone in seeking this bridge; other firms such as Superstate have pursued similar registrations to support tokenized funds. The broader industry is currently testing how blockchain can integrate with established financial systems, evidenced by recent pilot programs involving institutions like BlackRock and JPMorgan. Unlike pre-IPO perpetual futures—which provide price exposure without legal share ownership—the transfer agent function targets the core of securities infrastructure, allowing for the legal administration of assets that exist on-chain.
