The university’s expansion is anchored by its online division, which now serves 119,300 students—a massive jump from the 30,000 learners enrolled in 2015. President Michael Crow attributes this trajectory to a mission focused on inclusion rather than exclusion, tailoring programs to fit the complex lives of working adults, military personnel, and parents. This model of flexibility now extends internationally, with the launch of ASU London and a new cohort of 320 students preparing for events at Wembley Stadium.
Academic programming is increasingly tied to state economic requirements, particularly in fields like health care and advanced technology. The inaugural class at the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering arrives this fall to help address the projected 113,000 health care roles expected in Arizona by 2034. Simultaneously, the W. P. Carey School of Business reports a 40% rise in first-year students pursuing AI-focused degrees. While non-degree programs attracted an additional 275,000 participants, the institution also successfully brought back over 10,700 former students to complete their degrees.
