AMD, Intel and OPAQUE Launch TRACE to Standardize AI Governance

As AI agents increasingly operate across sensitive data, clouds, and complex infrastructure, the industry faces an urgent evidence gap. Current sandbox configurations and policy documents often fail to prove which controls remained active during execution or what a system actually performed. TRACE (Trust, Runtime Attestation, and Compliance Evidence) addresses this by composing established standards—including RATS, EAT, and SLSA—into a single, vendor-neutral artifact that travels with AI workloads to ensure transparency.

"The models and agents we deploy five years from now will be far more powerful than the ones we're deploying today," said Aaron Fulkerson, CEO of OPAQUE. "TRACE creates a tamper-evident record of what ran, which policies were enforced, and which tools an agent invoked." By moving the standard under the Linux Foundation, the project seeks to prevent the market from hardening around incompatible, proprietary trust silos. The initiative, which debuted at the June 2026 Confidential Computing Summit, has already seen significant technical engagement, including over 135,000 downloads of its reference library. Founding collaborators include AMD, Intel, Microsoft, and the Technology Innovation Institute, which serves as the project's sovereign AI anchor. The specification is currently available for public review and integration.
