DHS Agents Raid Home of Representative Ilhan Omar

Agents from the Department of Homeland Security raided the Washington, D.C. home of Representative Ilhan Omar on Monday morning, executing a judicially authorized warrant. The operation follows years of public calls from President Donald Trump and Republican allies to deport the Minnesota congresswoman, a frequent target of their political rhetoric.

The Department of Justice confirmed the search is part of an ongoing criminal investigation, reportedly focusing on naturalization paperwork filed by Omar’s father when she became a U.S. citizen in 2000. Investigators are examining allegations that she may have been older than 17 at the time of her naturalization, though these claims remain unsubstantiated. Legal experts, including former U.S. attorney Joyce Vance, noted the timing is highly unusual, occurring within the 60-day window before the November 3 midterms when the DOJ traditionally avoids overt actions that could influence election outcomes.

Critics of the administration have labeled the raid a political maneuver designed to intimidate a vocal opponent. Advocacy group MoveOn condemned the action, citing a pattern of racially charged rhetoric from the White House. Vice President JD Vance previously claimed on a podcast that the administration intended to pursue Omar for alleged immigration fraud, a sentiment echoed by several Republican lawmakers who have long advocated for her expulsion from Congress. Omar has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the search.
