BingX Secures Austrian MiCA License for European Expansion

Cryptocurrency exchange BingX has cleared a major hurdle for its European ambitions, securing a MiCA-compliant license through its Austrian subsidiary, MEGE zweite GmbH. The authorization, granted by the Financial Market Authority on October 13, clears the path for the exchange to offer regulated services across 29 European Economic Area nations.

The Austrian regulator has greenlit four specific service categories for the exchange: digital asset custody, crypto-to-fiat exchanges, token-to-token swaps, and asset transfers. While this regulatory nod marks a significant milestone, it does not provide a blanket authorization for all exchange activities. The current approval excludes the operation of multilateral trading platforms, portfolio management, investment advisory services, and leveraged derivative contracts.

BingX intends to leverage the European Union's passporting framework to scale its operations beyond Austria. Under these rules, the company must complete cross-border notification procedures with the European Securities and Markets Authority, detailing its intended services and target markets. While the exchange confirmed its expansion plans on October 14, it has yet to disclose a specific timeline for when these regulated services will go live for individual and institutional customers. Chief executive Daniel Lai stated that the move is central to the company’s push for a transparent, locally regulated trading experience across Europe, though the firm remains in ongoing discussions with various regional regulators to finalize its rollout.
