NEAR Protocol Eyes $6 Resistance Amid Strategic Council Expansion

NEAR Protocol climbed over 12% in the last 24 hours to trade above $5.20, as investors weighed the appointment of Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz to the NEAR Foundation Council against persistent technical hurdles that have capped recent attempts to break through the $6 resistance level.

NEAR Protocol Eyes $6 Resistance Amid Strategic Council Expansion

The token’s recent volatility reflects a broader struggle to establish momentum. Despite a 122% gain over the past month, the asset has repeatedly failed to hold ground near $5.97. While the price remains supported by four major daily exponential moving averages—a signal that medium-term buyers retain control—the Moving Average Convergence Divergence indicator suggests waning strength. Analysts warn that failing to defend the $4.90 support level could invite a deeper correction toward $3.79.

Governance changes accompany this market uncertainty. The appointment of Mert Mumtaz to the Foundation Council marks a push to integrate cross-chain liquidity expertise into the project’s leadership. Mumtaz, who continues to helm Solana infrastructure provider Helius, joins co-founder Illia Polosukhin to steer the network's focus toward privacy and interoperability. This strategic pivot coincides with the growth of NEAR Intents, which has now processed over $33 billion in transaction volume, even as the team works to move past a $3.8 million security exploit that temporarily impacted operations earlier this month.
