By operating a validator node, MoneyGram gains a direct hand in securing the network’s transaction flows and trade finance operations. The company, which processes transfers for 60 million customers across 200 countries, recently expanded its footprint in the space by launching its own U.S. dollar stablecoin, MGUSD. According to Luke Tuttle, the firm’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, this validation role serves as the next logical step in integrating blockchain into their global payment architecture.

MoneyGram Scales Blockchain Strategy as XDC Network Validator
MoneyGram has transitioned from a digital asset user to a core infrastructure participant, joining the XDC Network as an institutional validator. This move integrates the 85-year-old payments giant directly into the consensus mechanism of the Layer-1 blockchain, marking a strategic pivot toward governing the plumbing of onchain finance.

This partnership aligns MoneyGram with a diverse consortium of validators, including Deutsche Telekom, SBI Holdings, and NTT DOCOMO. XDC Network leadership emphasized that the inclusion of an established retail-facing payments network signals a maturation of their ecosystem, shifting focus from digital-asset-only projects toward firms that facilitate the real-world movement of capital. For XDC, the objective remains the creation of a high-throughput, ISO 20022-compliant environment capable of handling both human-initiated payments and future transactions driven by AI agents.
