BBVA scales ChatGPT access to entire 120,000-person global workforce

Ten times the size of its initial pilot, BBVA is rolling out ChatGPT Enterprise to its full global staff of 120,000 employees across 25 countries. The bank, which previously deployed 3,300 accounts in early 2024, now aims to embed OpenAI’s models directly into core software development, risk analysis, and customer service operations.

The expansion follows internal performance data showing that early adopters saved nearly three hours per week on routine tasks, with daily engagement rates exceeding 80%. Under the multi-year agreement, BBVA employees will gain access to custom AI agents connected to proprietary bank systems, alongside specialized training programs designed to accelerate integration across various business units.

BBVA Chairman Carlos Torres Vila described the move as a shift from digital transformation to an AI-native operational model. The bank is already leveraging this technology for its internal assistant, Blue, and is currently exploring new interfaces that would allow customers to interact with banking products directly through ChatGPT. This deal cements one of the financial sector’s most significant generative AI implementations to date, arriving shortly after OpenAI secured a separate partnership with Visa to integrate AI into agentic commerce.
