Mercari Launches Dedicated App for U.S. Shoppers to Access Japan Market

Mercari Japan has debuted a standalone mobile application in the United States, providing American consumers with a direct gateway to the company’s Japanese marketplace. The move replaces the existing 'Mercari x Japan' feature, aiming to streamline cross-border shopping for collectibles, fashion, and rare hobbyist merchandise through a localized platform.

Mercari Launches Dedicated App for U.S. Shoppers to Access Japan Market

The new app is managed directly by Mercari Japan, distinguishing it from the existing U.S. domestic platform. By moving away from the previous integrated feature, the company seeks to reduce friction for international buyers by handling language translation, currency conversion, and shipping logistics in-house. This centralized management includes built-in package tracking and a shipping protection service, designed to mitigate concerns regarding international transit.

This expansion capitalizes on the surging demand for Japanese entertainment and hobby products. According to company data, Mercari Japan’s cross-border transaction volume has grown more than 15-fold over the last three years, surpassing JPY 90 billion annually. The platform currently provides access to over 4 billion listings, now including inventory from the retailer Suruga-ya. By removing the need for third-party proxy services, the company intends to lower costs for consumers while scaling its footprint in the U.S. entertainment and gaming sectors. To mark the launch, a promotional campaign running from June 18 to July 5, 2026, will offer tiered discounts to new and existing users.
