Judge Denies Bid to Dismiss FTX-Linked Campaign Finance Charges

A federal judge in Manhattan has cleared the way for the trial of Michelle Bond, rejecting her motion to dismiss criminal charges tied to her 2022 congressional bid. Judge George Daniels dismissed Bond’s argument that her partner, former FTX executive Ryan Salame, had secured immunity for her during his own plea negotiations.

Bond faces four federal counts, including conspiracy to facilitate unlawful political contributions and making false statements to the Federal Election Commission. Prosecutors allege she used $400,000 funneled through a sham consulting agreement with FTX, alongside additional wire transfers from Salame, to illegally bolster her unsuccessful New York congressional campaign.

In his ruling, Judge Daniels noted there was no ambiguity in Salame’s plea agreement, stating that the government made no commitment to shield Bond from prosecution. The court cited testimony from Bond’s former attorney, Gina Parlovecchio, who admitted she did not interpret the government's previous remarks as a binding promise of immunity. Each of the four charges against Bond carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. As this case proceeds, it remains a focal point in the ongoing legal fallout from the 2022 collapse of the FTX exchange and the subsequent scrutiny of its political spending.
