StarKist and Partners Rally to Combat Northern Virginia Food Insecurity

With inflation and rising costs straining household budgets across Northern Virginia, a coalition of local organizations gathered at Floris United Methodist Church in Herndon to provide immediate relief. The Fifth Annual Resource Rally delivered essential food and hygiene kits to 400 families struggling with the region's deepening food insecurity.

More than 50 regional leaders, volunteers, and advocates joined forces to distribute kits containing StarKist products, 25-pound boxes of shelf-stable goods, and 15-pound boxes of personal care items. The effort, organized by StarKist, Feed the Children, Cornerstones, and the church, provided an estimated 8,300 meals during the single-day event.

Shannon Steene, CEO of Cornerstones, noted that rising costs for groceries and transportation have forced an increasing number of families to seek help from local pantries. This collaboration serves as a critical buffer for residents in Fairfax and Loudoun counties. Beyond the rally, StarKist has committed to a broader initiative through September 30, matching consumer donations and pledging product contributions up to 100,000 pouches to support the Put Child Hunger to Bed campaign.
